ALLURING MOROCCO

ALLURING MOROCCO

One of the most impressive Arabic countries, situated in north-western part of the African continent (often referred to as Maghreb), Morocco holds rich cultural history from ancient Phoenicians and Romans to the ethnic group of Berbers. Their name originates from ancient Egyptian language and means outlander.

I enjoyed exploring the French-style like Casablanca, eating the most delicious homemade cuscus and experiencing the warmest hospitality of Moroccan people due to my dearest friend from Casablanca. I was kindly welcomed to her home and had an honour to be a part of their traditional ladies wedding preparations which is hammam or the Moroccan bath and is something I would recommend doing while in Morocco.

From Casablanca I hit the train track to Marrakesh where I stayed in riad, traditional Moroccan house with an interior garden. There is so much to explore in the streets of medina like the Bahia palace, Saadian tombs, Medersa ben Youssef (Quranic school) or simply taste the best olives in the world and drink sweet fresh orange juice in the streets. Apart from bustling medina, the magnificent Djemaa El-Efna and the souqs, I really enjoyed strolling through the colourful Jardin Majorelle just few minutes’ walk away from the medina. It is mostly famous for being Yves Saint Laurent’s memorial.

Rabat is also worth visiting since it boasts with impressive Kasbah les Oudaias and the ruins of an ancient Roman city Chellah.

Morocco is definitely a place of diversity and a destination I will need to go back to explore just a little bit more.
