Bohol, hidden gem of the Philippines

Bohol, hidden gem of the Philippines

Just two hours ride by ferry from Cebu, lies a small island of Bohol among thousands of islands in the Philippines. Apart from local tourists it is rather tranquil island perfect for a getaway from other touristic places. It is famous for its colonial churches, which are mostly left in ruins because of the earthquakes. It is also known for its beautiful beaches, water sports activities and tarsier sanctuary, where you can view the world’s tiniest primate sleeping on the tree branches. It is a really small animal, almost of the size of one’s hand but their eyes are pretty huge. Their diet is based on insects and they are active mostly at night.

But there is another extraordinary attraction in Bohol the so called Chocolate Hills. It is a geological formation built of thousands of small hills covered in grass that stretch as far as the eye can see. The name originates from the grass that turns brown like chocolate during the dry season. Bohol really is an amazing little island and should not be overlooked when exploring the Philippines.
